FAILED ADI PART 2 or ADI PART 3

So many times we hear of people who have failed adi part 2 or adi part 3, being trained by other trainers, the Instructor college and others on a 2-1 or even 3-1 ratio, it is no wonder many trainees feel lost and confused when it comes to part 3!

Failed Adi part 3

There are 17 areas of competence are listed in the ADI part 3 test report form, which the examiner will fill in at the end of your test.

You'll get a score from 0 to 3 for each of the 17 competencies, which are added up to work out if you've passed the test, and what your grade will be.

So many people say I got 30, I almost passed - No it means that there where MAJOR shortfalls and inadequacies in your teaching.
Don't end up saying - I didn't even understand the marking exam sheet

Your test result

After you give the lesson, the examiner will discuss your performance and give you your result.

You’ll get your grade, along with your completed approved driving instructor (ADI) part 3 test report form.

Total score Grade Description
0-30 Fail Your performance is unsatisfactory, and you won’t join the ADI register
31-42 Grade B You’ll be allowed to join the ADI register
43-51 Grade A You have shown a high standard of instruction and you’ll be allowed to join the ADI register

You’ll automatically fail if:

  • you get a score of 7 or less in the ‘risk management’ category
  • the examiner stops the lesson because you’ve put yourself or someone else in danger
Failed ADI Part 3 recovery training

Very often 3 core problems lie at the heart of an adi part 3 failure

  • The inability to see it, say it and sort it, (core competencies)
  • A the general lack of knowledge of the subject
  • The inability to help the pupil reflect on and understand the consequences of their action

The lack of knowledge is often as a result of not reading the Essential skills book and therefore not knowing what is required, and also the reliance on the pupil to fill in the blanks.

Let us give you a typical example, during the left or right reverse on the adi part 3 exam, trainees will often give a specific point through the left or right rear windows where the kerb meets the car at the point of turn, they will then say "keep the kerb in that position" and expect me to do the rest!

Well how much do i need to turn the wheel to keep it in that position, What if the kerb goes past that point as i'm reversing around the corner, which way do i turn? How much do i turn?

The problem is, you are relying on me (the Pupil) to do the job for you, and without precise and specific instructions I'm just going to turn that wheel from right to left with complete abandon because YOU don't know how much to tell me to turn!

Therefore I'm filling in the blanks and you are going to fail your adi part 3 test.

You should NEVER rely on the pupil to do the job for you, you need to know that at a specific point, if he turns the wheel 1 full turn it will come almost 3/4 of the way around the corner, then at another specific point he turns it back 3/4 and you will be reasonably close and parallel with the kerb.

But most importantly, he can go home, go out with his parents to practice, do exactly what you've told him word for word, and it will without fail work, each and every time!

If you are not at that stage on your adi part 3 training, you need our Adi part 3 recovery training.

Why not book a 2 hour session and see for yourself how we can help you to achieve your goal.

We also do adi part 2 or 3 rescue training as a semi intensive course of 10 or 20 hours, to renew and add to your existing skill base, but to fill in the areas which caused you the problems.

This course is ideal for adi part 2 and adi part 3 tests and is done in your local area.

10 hour course = £450

20 hour course = £900
